What Age Groups are your tours suitable for?
Coastal Connections is happy to design a program that suits your group's interests, abilities, and schedule. With this in mind, we welcome groups from all ages aboard, and ensure everyone will understand


What is your tour season?
Coastal Connections’ tour season runs from mid May till early October.


Where are you located?
Coastal Connections’ homeport is Salton's Brook in beautiful Terra Nova National Park from mid May to early October, and Petley, Random Island in the off season. For driving directions, please click here.


How many people can your boat accommodate?
Our vessel The MV Coastal Explorer is Canadian Coast Guard certified, and can accommodate 12 passenger guests.


What kind of weather should I expect?
When on the waters in Newfoundland, it is strongly advised to be prepared all seasons of the year, as weather conditions here can change rather quickly, especially on the water. Be sure to bring aboard warm clothing, outerwear that will keep you dry and shoes that give you solid footing on deck. Don’t forget your sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses as well!


Will the waters be rough?
The waters of Newman Sound & Smith Sound are generally no more choppy than any large lake. This is due to the sound being sheltered by the surrounding land. You will not experience the often rough waters of the Atlantic Ocean in Newman & Smith Sounds.


What should I bring?
The weather in Newfoundland can often be unpredictable. Newfoundland temperatures can range from 10º Celsius (50ºF) overnight to 30º Celsius (86ºF) during our warmest summer day. But you can always be sure that it will be a bit cooler at sea, so the best thing is to come prepared. The best strategy is to layer your clothing. Remember that the day will be more fun and productive if you are comfortable and dry.


Do you offer School Programs?
Coastal Connections offers programs to school groups at all levels-from primary grades to university researchers-during the spring, summer, and fall. Please contact us with your schedule and requirements, and we will build an excursion that works for you.


What wildlife might I spot while on your tours?
While aboard The MV Coastal Explorer, you could spot a variety of wildlife including: Bald Eagles, Osprey, Hawks, Puffins, Gannet, Duck, Turr, Rabbit, Moose, Seals, Canadian Geese, Dolphins, and Loons just to name a few. In addition, you will experience the wildlife in our waters, such as squid, cod, lobster, crab (in season) etc.
