"Discovery Tour" - Daily
A Terra Nova National Park Experience

Join Captain Jan Negrijn aboard the fully-equipped and comfortable MV Coastal Explorer, for the 2.5-hour "Discovery Tour" and observe first hand the beauty and diversity of our coastal marine ecosystem and the mysteries of Newman Sound.

More than just a boat tour....you will learn about this magnificent place, participate in hands-on activities, and view the wonders of our natural environment...in the sky, on the land, and particularly, in the sea.

From plankton, fish and seabirds to the great whales, we will explore all that makes up this rich, complex, web of life. You will pull crab and lobster pots (in season), use a variety of sampling equipment, examine specimens under the microscope, perhaps even catch a glimpse of bald eagles, dolphins and whales in their natural setting.

Clear, pristine waters of the North Atlantic ocean, invigorating sea breezes, boreal forests and sandy beaches within Terra Nova National Park provide the backdrop for your "hands-on" investigation of what has sustained Newfoundland and its people for generations. Meet Newfoundlanders who take their living from the sea. The preservation of our marine natural resources depends on their being understood and appreciated - be a part of our team, make a contribution to long-term monitoring programs, while getting a in-depth look at this unique coastal eco-system.


Make it a full day, and combine it with a tour of the Marine Interpretation Centre - gets your hands wet with the Touch Tank, get an inside look of the Park through a video in the theatre, explore the variety of trails along the shores of Newman Sound....let the kids hang around one of the playgrounds or explore the beach! Coastal Connections is also available for Evening Cruises throughout August and September. We make every attempt to accommodate tour requests, but we will require a minimum of 6 guests.
