The MV Coastal Explorer
Built in the Northumberland Strait style, the 11.5-metre motor vessel Coastal Explorer was designed for fishing and later modified for use as a private yacht. Its sea kindly, FRP solid laminate hull now makes an ideal platform for Coastal Connections' public and educational nature tours, and its scientific charters. The Explorer is certified by the Canadian Coast Guard as a small passenger vessel.

Serving as Coastal Connections' flagship vessel, the Explorer is used for hands-on nature tours and experiential learning programs in Newman Sound, Terra Nova National Park. Clientele varies from pre-booked local and international tour groups to students from regional schools. Tour season runs from mid May until early October. |
As a Scientific Support Platform, the Explorer offers scientists and researchers a unique tool for their marine studies in the Newman & Smith Sound areas. On charter, the Explorer comes with a highly qualified crew, shore-side support, and equipment storage. In this capacity, the Coastal Explorer is certified by Transport Canada for year-round operations within Newman Sound, Smith Sound and adjacent waters.
Coastal Connections can also provide technical and logistic planning support for field work and experiment set-up.
